Sports for Special Kids - Full Mission Statement
Vision!
To provide growth and fellowship to handicapped youth in the Triangle area using athletics as the foundation. Through a network of facilities and individuals in the area, these youth will have expanded access and opportunity to participate in sports and gain the benefits that accompany participation. By linking facilities, programs and people together, children facing increased challenges will have the same opportunities to play, learn and grow through sports as other children in the area.
Why?
SFSK is non-profit organization run by people who want to give something to the community and who have themselves benefited by participating in athletics throughout their lives. With no connections to any parent organizations and no political agenda, MBF has the goal of reaching as many children as possible and involving any other organization that is capable and willing to contribute.
The Proposed Plan
Our plan is three fold. First, we will establish links with other organizations that try to help disabled children or who have athletic facilities and equipment we might access to build a network of resources. Second, we will create methods to communicate to the kids, their families, volunteers and collaborative groups about activities being organized and facilities available for use. Lastly, we plan to acquire or construct a facility of our own to serve as the central hub of our efforts where the kids can play, learn, compete, and grow in an environment that is suitable for the challenges presented by their handicaps.
Our Promise
To always work in the best interest of the children involved.
Our Role in the Community
To engage anyone interested in helping disabled children through athletics.
2005
Initiate our organization. Build a network of volunteers, sponsors and collaborators. Build awareness of our organization and its mission. Host a few events. Build our networking model. Seek a facility.
2006 and beyond!
Develop a robust set of activities to pursue. Engage additional sponsors and collaborators. Put in place a tool for assisting with our networking. Identify a facility or a location for a future facility.
Besides running our own events and eventually having our own facility(s), we wish to provide a way of coordinating the facilities and activities available through other organizations. While there are programs available to handicapped children through a number of respected organizations, resources remain limited that are truly capable of addressing the needs of these kids. Therefore, we will work with as many organizations as we can to gain access to their programs, expertise and facilities for use by these children. Our goal is not to oversee these programs but to provide a central resource for those seeking the programs. These children do not have the same type nor volume of access that many other children do. Our goal is to increase that access and hopefully the benefits they receive as a result.
Sports for Special Kids is not for profit and we intend on keeping our administrative costs low and the maximum amt to our receipts of services.
